A Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the free listing that shows your shop on Google Maps and Search, with your address, hours, phone, photos and reviews. To get one, sign in at business.google.com, add your business, and verify it, usually by video, phone or email. It's for businesses that meet customers in person; online-only stores aren't eligible.

This guide covers who can have a profile, how to set it up and verify it, how to fill it in so it ranks, and how to get more reviews.

Checked on 29 October 2026 against Google's Business Profile Help Center. Google changes Business Profile features often; check the Help Center if something looks different.

What is a Google Business Profile?

It's your business's free listing on Google. When someone searches "abaya shop near me", "perfume shop Deira" or your business name, your profile can show on Google Maps and in the local results on Google Search, with:

  • Name, address, map pin and directions

  • Opening hours (including special hours for Ramadan and Eid)

  • Phone number and website

  • Photos and videos

  • Reviews and star rating

  • Products, services and updates (posts)

For a physical shop in the UAE, it's often the biggest free source of new customers.

Is my business eligible for a Google Business Profile?

Google Business Profile is for businesses that meet customers in person during their stated hours. In practice:

Your business

Eligible?

Shop, showroom, salon or clinic customers visit

Yes, with your address shown

Business that visits or delivers to customers in person (for example cleaning, repairs, installation)

Yes, as a service-area business (you can hide your address)

Online store with no in-person contact

No, under Google's guidelines

Online store with a pickup point or showroom customers can visit

Yes, for that location

Home-based business without customer visits

Usually no, unless it serves customers in person

Online-only sellers: focus on your website, Instagram, WhatsApp and marketplaces instead, and use Google Search through your website (and Google Merchant Center for products).

How do I create a Google Business Profile?

  1. Go to business.google.com and sign in with a Google account you'll keep (ideally a business account, not a staff member's personal one).

  2. Search for your business name. If it already exists on Maps, request access or claim it rather than creating a duplicate.

  3. Enter your business name exactly as it appears on your shop sign and trade licence. Don't add keywords like "Best Abaya Shop Dubai" to the name; that breaks Google's guidelines.

  4. Choose your primary category (for example "Clothing store", "Perfume store", "Beauty salon").

  5. Add your location: building, street, area and emirate, and place the map pin precisely. UAE addresses can be hard to find, so check the pin carefully.

  6. Add your phone number (a UAE number customers can call) and website.

  7. Verify your business (next section).

How do I verify my Google Business Profile?

Google chooses which methods you can use based on your business type, region and other information. Methods include:

Method

How it works

Video recording

You record a short continuous video showing your location, signage, the inside of the business and proof you manage it. Google recommends it where available

Live video call

A Google support representative checks your location and ownership on a call during your business hours

Phone or SMS

Google sends a code to your business phone (it must be able to receive calls or texts, not an automated phone menu)

Email

Google emails steps to an address you can access

Postcard

A code is mailed to your address; usually arrives within 14 days and expires after 30 days

After you complete verification, Google's review can take up to 5 business days, sometimes longer.

Tips for the video in the UAE:

  • Film in one take: start outside showing the street, building or mall signage and your shop sign, then walk in.

  • Show things only the owner or manager has: unlocking the shop, the till or POS, stock room, branded packaging or your trade licence.

  • Make sure the name and address match what you entered.

How do I fill in my profile so it ranks?

Google's local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. A complete, active profile helps with all three.

Complete every section:

  • Categories: one accurate primary category, plus secondary categories that genuinely apply

  • Hours: regular hours, plus special hours for Ramadan, Eid and public holidays

  • Description: what you sell, in plain language, in English (and Arabic if you serve Arabic speakers)

  • Attributes: for example wheelchair accessible, women-owned, delivery, in-store pickup

  • Products: your best sellers with photos and AED prices

  • Services, if you offer them

  • Photos: shop front (so people can find you), interior, products, team; add new ones regularly

  • Website link: to your store or product page

  • Contact options: phone, and a messaging link such as WhatsApp where Google offers it for your region

Note: Google ended the built-in Business Profile chat feature in 2024. Make sure customers can reach you by phone, website or WhatsApp instead.

How do I get more Google reviews?

Reviews strongly affect whether people choose you, and they help your profile stand out.

  1. Ask every happy customer, at the counter, on the receipt and in your WhatsApp follow-up.

  2. Share your review link (in your Business Profile, select Read reviews, then Get more reviews). Put it on a QR code at the till.

  3. Make it easy: "It takes 30 seconds and really helps our small shop."

  4. Reply to every review, good and bad, politely and quickly. Reply in the language the customer used.

  5. Never buy reviews, offer rewards for reviews, or write them yourself. Google removes fake reviews and can restrict your profile.

WhatsApp follow-up message:

Thank you for shopping with us, [Name]! If you're happy with your order, we'd love a quick Google review: [review link]. It really helps our small business.

Should I post updates on my Google Business Profile?

Yes, occasionally. Updates (posts) let you share offers, new arrivals and events, such as Ramadan hours, White Friday deals or a new collection. They keep your profile fresh and give customers a reason to visit.

Common Google Business Profile mistakes in the UAE

  • Wrong map pin, so customers end up in the wrong building

  • Keyword-stuffed business names, which can get your profile suspended

  • Hours not updated for Ramadan and holidays

  • Duplicate listings for the same shop

  • A staff member's personal account owns the profile, and access leaves with them

  • No photos of the shop front, so people can't find you in a mall or busy street

  • Ignoring negative reviews instead of replying calmly
