To sell on Instagram in the UAE, get a licence that covers online selling (such as Dubai's e-Trader licence), switch to an Instagram business account, and post products with clear AED prices. Most UAE sales still happen in DMs, so answer fast. Then take payment by card link, Apple Pay, Tabby or cash on delivery, and ship with a courier.
This guide covers each step, including Instagram's shopping features, how DM selling works in practice, how UAE customers pay, and how to stop losing orders in your inbox.
Checked on 29 October 2026. Instagram changes its shopping features often and availability differs by country; check Instagram's Help Center and Commerce Manager for the current rules.
What is an Instagram shop?
"Instagram shop" means two things:
Instagram Shopping, the official feature. You connect a product catalog to your business account and tag products in posts, Reels and Stories. Customers tap a tag to see the product and price, then buy on your own website.
A shop that sells through Instagram. The far more common UAE model: you post products, customers send a DM ("price?", "available in M?"), and you close the sale in the chat, by payment link or cash on delivery.
Most small UAE sellers use the second model, and many use both. Either way, you need the basics below.
Step 1: Get licensed
Selling regularly on Instagram is a commercial activity in the UAE and needs a licence that covers it. Without one you can't get most payment gateways, Tabby or Tamara, or a business bank account.
Selling from home as a UAE or GCC national in Dubai: the e-Trader licence (about AED 1,370 a year in government fees) was created for social media sellers.
Expats and growing brands: a free zone ecommerce licence is usually the route.
Full details, costs and steps: how to get an ecommerce licence in Dubai.
Step 2: Set up an Instagram business account
In Instagram, go to Settings and activity → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account and choose Business.
Pick a category that matches what you sell (Clothing store, Beauty, Home goods and so on).
Add contact options: a WhatsApp button and your business email.
Write a bio that answers the first questions: what you sell, that you deliver across the UAE, delivery time, and how to order. For example: "Modest abayas · Delivery across UAE in 1–2 days · COD available · DM or WhatsApp to order".
Put a link in your bio: your online store, or a WhatsApp link if you don't have a store yet.
Create Highlights for Prices, Sizes, Delivery, Reviews and How to order. These answer half your DMs before they're sent.
Step 3: Can I use Instagram Shopping in the UAE?
Instagram has offered shopping tags in the UAE for several years, subject to its commerce eligibility requirements. As of late 2026, third-party guides say you need:
An Instagram business or creator account
A website domain you own where the products can be bought (Instagram's in-app checkout isn't offered in the UAE; purchases happen on your site)
A product catalog connected through Meta Commerce Manager, either uploaded or synced from your store
Approval in Commerce Manager (Instagram reviews your account and domain)
Once approved, you can tag products in posts, Reels and Stories (with product stickers), and use product ads.
Is it worth it? If you have an online store, yes: tags make it easy for customers to see prices and buy without messaging you. If you sell only through DMs, you'll need a website first. See do you need a website if you sell on Instagram?
Check Instagram's Help Center for the current eligibility list for the UAE before you apply.
Step 4: Post products that sell
Show the price in AED in the caption or on the image. "DM for price" creates hundreds of DMs and loses buyers who won't ask.
Say "VAT included" if you're VAT-registered. UAE prices shown to shoppers should include VAT.
Use real photos and short videos showing size, fit and texture. Reels reach new customers; carousels show detail.
List sizes, colours and stock so customers don't have to ask.
Write in English and Arabic where your customers are Arabic speakers.
Post around UAE shopping peaks: paydays at the end of the month, Ramadan and Eid, White Friday and the Dubai Shopping Festival.
Step 5: Turn DMs into orders
In the UAE most Instagram sales still start in DMs. The faster and clearer your reply, the more you sell. Customers often message several shops at once and buy from the first to answer properly.
A simple DM-to-order flow:
Answer the question with the price, available sizes and a photo.
Ask for the details you need: size, colour, name, phone, emirate and area.
Confirm the total including delivery: "AED 189 + AED 15 delivery to Sharjah = AED 204."
Offer payment: a payment link, or cash on delivery.
Confirm the order and give a delivery date.
Record it somewhere other than the chat, so it doesn't get lost.

Tip: add Instagram's saved replies for prices, delivery and payment, and use FAQs (suggested questions customers can tap in a new chat).
Step 6: How do UAE customers pay on Instagram?
Payment method | How it works | Good for |
|---|---|---|
Payment link (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay) | Send a link in the DM; the customer pays on their phone | Most orders; money before you ship |
Buy now, pay later (Tabby, Tamara) | Customer splits the payment; you're paid by the provider | Higher-priced items |
Cash on delivery (COD) | Courier collects cash or card at the door | Customers who don't trust new shops yet |
Bank transfer | Customer transfers to your business account | Repeat or business customers |
Payment links come from payment gateways and apps; you need a trade licence to sign up. COD is still popular in the UAE, but it brings failed deliveries. Confirm every COD order before shipping and consider asking for a small advance on large orders. See cash on delivery for social sellers and how to spot a fake order.
Step 7: Deliver across the UAE
Choose a courier that covers all seven emirates and offers COD collection, such as Aramex or a local same-day courier.
Set delivery fees by emirate and say them up front. Delivery to Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman is usually cheaper and faster than to Ras Al Khaimah or the Western Region.
Share tracking in the chat or on WhatsApp so customers don't message to ask "where is my order?"
Have a clear return policy in your Highlights.
Why Instagram shops lose orders (and how to fix it)
Problem | What it costs you | Fix |
|---|---|---|
Slow replies, especially at night | Customers buy from the shop that answered first | Saved replies, or an AI that answers 24/7 |
"DM for price" | Fewer DMs from serious buyers, more time wasted | Show prices |
Orders written in chats or notebooks | Missed orders, wrong sizes, nothing to invoice | Record orders in one system |
Selling out-of-stock items | Refunds and angry customers | One stock count for Instagram, website and shop |
Unconfirmed COD orders | Failed deliveries and courier fees | Confirm every order before shipping |
Instagram and WhatsApp in separate apps | Customers repeat themselves; staff miss messages | One inbox for every channel |

Should I automate Instagram DMs?
Automating the repeated questions (price, sizes, delivery, how to pay) saves hours and wins night-time sales. Keep a person for complaints, custom requests and anything sensitive. Only use tools that connect through Meta's official API: unofficial bots that log in as you can get your account restricted. More in Instagram DM automation for shops.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a licence to sell on Instagram in the UAE?
Yes. Regular selling on Instagram is a commercial activity. Dubai's e-Trader licence was designed for social media sellers, and free zone ecommerce licences are another option, especially for expats.
Is Instagram Shopping available in the UAE?
Instagram has offered shopping tags in the UAE, subject to its commerce eligibility requirements. You need a business account, a website you own where products are sold, a connected catalog and approval in Commerce Manager. Check Instagram's Help Center for current availability.
Can customers pay inside Instagram in the UAE?
Not through Instagram's own checkout. UAE sellers usually send a payment link in the DM, offer Tabby or Tamara, take cash on delivery, or link to their own online store.
How do I get more customers on Instagram in the UAE?
Post Reels regularly, show prices, use Arabic and English, run Click-to-Message ads to DMs or WhatsApp, and answer every message fast. Reviews and delivery videos in your Highlights build trust.
What's the best way to take orders from Instagram DMs?
Answer with the price and options, collect size, name, phone and emirate, confirm the total with delivery, send a payment link or confirm COD, and record the order outside the chat.
Can I run an Instagram shop without a website?
Yes, many UAE sellers sell through DMs only. But you'll need a website to use Instagram's product tags, and a store makes it easier to take payment and look trustworthy.
